Franklin Cockerill - Published Author
Franklin Cockerill’s research and development, as well as leadership skills, has led him to become an internationally known microbiologist. Cockerill spent many years at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and also as the President and CEO of Mayo Collaborative Services, which is the largest for-profit organization in affiliation with Mayo Clinic.
Franklin Cockerill has accomplished much in his career, receiving countless awards for his work. On top of this he has become a published author and has had his work appear in many peer-reviewed medical journals. The co-author of more than 150 articles, Franklin Cockerill is the author of “Optimal Testing Parameters for Blood Cultures,” which was published in Clinical Infectious Diseases in 2004.

The written findings of research articulated included: "When the results of this study were compared with previous data published for manual broth-based blood culture systems and patient samples obtained in the 1970s and 1980s, the following were found: (1) the percentage increase in pathogen recovery per milliliter of blood is less, (2) more consecutive blood culture sets over a 24-h period are required to detect bloodstream pathogens, and (3) a shorter duration of incubation is required to diagnose bloodstream infections."
As Frank Cockerill knows, peer-reviewed scientific literature is an important part of advancing the body of medical knowledge. Submitted material that is reviewed is like a patient seeking a second opinion after an initial diagnosis.
Many of Franklin Cockerill’s publications have focused on novel testing methods for diagnosing and treating infectious diseases.
Franklin Cockerill - Med City Marathon
When not in the office, Franklin Cockerill finds ways to relax and enjoy his time off. He may play the piano, do some gardening and more often than not, he will go out for a run. And boy does he run. Franklin Cockerill has run ten consecutive Med City Marathons. So for the Med City Marathon alone he has run a total of 262 miles! The Med City Marathon is an increasingly popular race in Rochester, Minnesota. The 20th anniversary of the marathon will be this year, 2015, as it is scheduled to be on May 23 and 24. The Med City Marathon is a much-anticipated event, and earlybird registration for the 2015 entry began in the fall of 2014.

Previously in 2014, the Med City Marathon set a record for turnout. Many believe that with the growing popularity of the race and the consistent runners like Franklin Cockerill, the Med City Marathon could celebrate their 20th race with another record-breaking year.
As with previous years, medical services for the 2015 marathon is being supplied by the Mayo Clinic Sport Medicine Center. Frank Cockerill enjoyed a long and fruitful association with the Mayo Clinic, starting in his days as a medical resident in Internal Medicine.
Franklin Cockerill knows that running 26.2 can have it ups and downs, but he found a way to keep himself interested and focused on the steps ahead of him. The race is challenge for every runner, but most people who have trained adequately should be able to finish a marathon ever if they are beginners.
Franklin Cockerill III MD is a highly respected microbiologist who has a number of inventions with his name attached to them. 2007 was a big year for Dr. Cockerill, and he shares all of his creations during that time below.

Franklin Cockerill in the 2000’s
Franklin Cockerill is highly accomplished in his field as a microbiologist and medical official. In the 2000’s, he had a plethora of patents and inventions that were introduced to the medical community in his name. He had fourteen inventions both in 2007 and 2005 alone; however he had many more that decade that are shared below.
Former CEO
Dr. Franklin Cockerill III MD is a microbiologist, pathologist and diagnostic expert who has been a body of influence over the medical community throughout his entire career in medicine, which has now totaled at almost forty years. He has published hundreds of pieces of medical literature, created dozens of inventions and patents, worked on Presidential appointments, influenced medical executive committees and their medical staff, given volunteer aid to low-income nations in emergency situations, and completed many other tasks that have helped advance the medical community.
In one of his most recent positions, Franklin Cockerill served as the CEO and President of Mayo Collaborative Services. He was in charge of the largest for-profit company that is associated with the Mayo Clinic. The main service line of the company, Mayo Medical Laboratories, is the third largest provider of laboratory services in the United States; and it reaches out to over 4,000 clients spread across 130 different countries.
In his capacity, Franklin Cockerill was also the Chair of Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. This role put his skills in laboratory designs and procedures to work, which he is also well-known for. He has gotten much recognition for his work designing and planning laboratories. A few years ago he accepted the Frost and Sullivan Award in Boston for “Best Laboratory Business Plan”. He also was awarded the Laboratory Public Service Award by G2 Reports.
Franklin Cockerill parted ways with the Mayo Clinic in September 2014, and looking to transition into a role where he can create innovations in diagnostic services.
